Federal Election 2008

Canada will go to the polls on Tuesday, October 14, 2008. Advance polls will be open October 3, 4 and 6. This is our chance to make sure that seniors’ mental health issues are on the agenda of candidates and political parties – not just during the election campaign – but long after the Oct. 14 vote is done.

Ask your candidates about their stand on seniors’ mental health.

The CCSMH position paper [375KB PDF] provides key facts about seniors’ mental health and outlines recommendations to improve seniors’ mental health in Canada. Be sure to ask candidates “What will your party do to support the mental health and well-being of Canadian seniors and those who care for them?”

We urge you to take a look at the party’s 2008 Platforms to see how seniors’ and mental health issues are portrayed:

Note: The Elections Canada web site is a great source for information. Type in your postal code on the Voter Information Services page and you’ll get specific information about your electoral district, who the candidates are and how to contact them, where you’ll need to go to vote, etc.
