Partner Update – HealthCareCAN
HealthCareCAN
HealthCareCAN co-leads the Quality Mental Health Care Network (QMHCN), a pan-Canadian network of health sector leaders, in partnership with the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC). As part of the network, The Quality Mental Health Care Framework, was first developed by HealthCareCAN in 2020 and will now be updated by HealthCareCAN. HealthCareCAN will also develop an implementation toolkit to help further disseminate the framework. HealthCareCAN co-presented with the MHCC, an oral presentation at the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR) conference in May 2024 to build further awareness of the QMHCN and the framework.
HealthCareCAN signed an open letter from the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), wherein there is a recommendation to amend to the Canada Health Act to explicitly include community-based mental health and substance use health care services or alternatively create parallel mental health and substance use health care legislation that includes robust funding and accountability measures. Jonathan Mitchell, Vice-President, Research and Policy at HealthCareCAN attended a meeting with Minister Holland in September with other partner organizations to discuss the recommendations in the letter.
